Occupational Safety, Health & Wellness

Occupational Safety, Health and Wellness (OSHW) programs are one of the foundational pillars of any Fire/EMS agency. Given the nature of the Fire/EMS business, OSHW programs are much more complex and regulated than many other government services. To aid with this challenge, we offer a wide array of OSHW-related consulting services that include the following:

OSHA compliance review
Compliance with the many applicable OSHA regulations can be a daunting and confusing undertaking for any Fire/EMS agency. We can develop an OSHA compliance review process for your agency that includes recommendations for internal audit processes and OSHA-related training.

Review of existing OSHW programs and development of comprehensive, turn-key OSHW programs
We can evaluate any part of your OSHW program and compare it to best industry practices and applicable regulations, and then make recommendations for enhancements. We offer evaluation services that include performing a comprehensive NFPA 1500, Fire Department Occupational Safety, Health, and Wellness Program, Annex B survey to determine your status regarding this leading industry standard. Further, we can help you develop a plan for additional desired compliance. We create comprehensive agency-wide OSHW turnkey programs that include an implementation plan. Our OSHW program development is based on agency applicable sections of the latest edition of NFPA 1500 and other leading industry practices and standards.

Implementation of Health Safety Officer and Incident Safety Officer programs
We can assist with the implementation of Health Safety Officer and Incident Safety Officer programs. Our available services include training of members and the development of policies and procedures that are based on the latest edition of NFPA 1521, Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer Professional Qualifications.

Injury/accident review process development and training
On-duty injuries account for a sizable expense for many agencies. We can provide an effective injury/accident review process that is system driven, (not blame driven) with the primary goal of preventing a re-occurrence of an event. An effective accident review process should, over time, result in a reduction in your experience modifier (e-mod) that insurance companies use to determine your insurance premiums. We provide training based on best practices of injury/accident review. We also can provide third-party injury review services.
